Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue

  1. The Japan-Myanmar Human Rights Dialogue was held on Monday, February 11 in Nay Pyi Daw.
  2. This dialogue was held between the two countries for the first time. The dialogue was led respectively by Mr. Jun Shinmi, Deputy Director-General of Foreign Policy Bureau, Ambassador in charge of UN affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. U Thant Kyaw, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
  3. During the dialogue, both countries exchanged views on human rights situation such as activities of National Human Rights Commission, peace negotiations and release of prisoners of conscience in Myanmar as well as on Japanese assistance to Myanmar and cooperation in the field of human rights in the international arena including the UN resolution on the situation of human rights in Myanmar.
