Assistance by the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security to the Project in Pakistan

- On December 18, the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security, which was established through the initiative of the Government of Japan in 1999, decided to extend assistance totaling 4,830,280 US dollars (approximately 391 million yen) to a project entitled “Livelihood Restoration and Protection and Sustainable Empowerment of Vulnerable Peasant Communities in Sindh Province”.
- The project is implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWOMEN) to promote the human security of those vulnerable people in Sindh Province. The activities will include the following:
Improving the livelihood and economic security of rural communities through offering technical assistance for efficient use of water and off-farm income generating opportunities and by improving access to micro-financing and to social security schemes
Offering assistance to enhance the skills and knowledge of sharecroppers to improve quantity and quality of agricultural production
Improving landholding security through the production of mutually agreeable landholding maps and increased transparency in the implementation of tenancy agreement between landlords and sharecroppers, while strengthening their resilience to future natural disasters
- This project is expected to promote the human security of the vulnerable population in Pakistan.
