Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the signatures on the agreements by the governments of Sudan and South Sudan

1. Japan welcomes the signatures on the series of agreements, including security arrangement, oil and nationality, by both the governments of Sudan and South Sudan. Japan also pays its respect to all those who have made the efforts to reach the agreements, beginning from the presidents of the two countries, the parties of both governments on the negotiations as well as members of AUHIP which realized the signatures, among others.

2. Japan hopes that the two governments swiftly implement the agreements and promptly agree on all the other remaining outstanding issues such as the issue on Abyei.

3. Japan intends to continuously support the efforts of both governments for the peaceful coexistence of the two countries.
