Dispatch of an Observation Mission from Japan to the Parliamentary Election in Georgia

  1. The Government of Japan have dispatched four persons to take part in an election observation mission in order to support the fair conduct of the parliamentary election in the country, scheduled to take place on Monday, October 1. The four members include: one expert knowledgeable about the regional situation – Ms. Yoko Hirose (Associate Professor, Keio University), and four officials from the Embassy of Japan in Georgia. Associate Professor Hirose is to be dispatched to the major international election observation mission organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) / Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). The three officials from the Embassy of Japan are registered with the Central Election Commission of Georgia as observers from the Japanese Government and will engage in the monitoring of the election.

  2. Holding this parliamentary election freely and fairly will be extremely important, not only for democratic consolidation in the country, but also for the peace and stability of the South Caucasus region. The dispatch of an observation mission from Japan is expected to contribute to the implementation of a fair election in Georgia.
