On August 31, Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. François Lonseny Fall, Minister of State, Secretary General of the Office of the President of the Republic of Guinea, who is visiting Japan. An overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Minister Gemba first thanked for the warm welcome from the Government of Guinea and people of Guinea for Parliamentary Vice-Minister, H.E. Mr. Toshiyuki Kato who visited Guinea this July, and said that Guinea was in the process of democratization, and that he expected that the legislative election would be organized in a fair manner in near future. H.E. Mr. Gemba also said that he would like President Alpha Condé to participate in the 5th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) which will be held in June 2013, and that TICAD will steadily continue follow-up of its result as Japan always does and respect the ownership of African countries to promote African development.
- In response, H.E. Mr. Fall stated that this visit to Japan was very useful and contributed to the deepening of cooperative relations with Japan, and that Guinea would hold the legislative election before the end of this year. The Secretary-General was of opinion that the President had intention to participate in TICAD V.
- H.E. Mr. Gemba also said that Guinea was a country rich in Bauxite, which would attract Japanese private sector, and that he expected improvement of investment environment, and H.E. Mr. Fall agreed on this point.
- Furthermore, the two ministers also exchanged opinions on matters such as cooperation in international arena, including the election of the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, and exchange of people in the field of culture.
