Emergency Grant Aid for Refugees from Syria

- On Friday, August 24, the Government of Japan decided to extend additional Emergency Grant Aid of 5 million US dollars in order to support Syrian Refugees, as the number of its out flux to neighboring countries rapidly grows, from which the serious situation in Syria, where a string of oppression and violence has been continuing for 17 months or more.
- Japan is scheduled to promptly implement, a distribution of food, medical goods, and sanitary items etc., while coordinating with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
- As a result of this decision, Japan's humanitarian assistance to Syria will total 13 million US dollars.
