May 18, 2012
Japanese
- On Friday, May 18, the Government of Japan decided to extend additional Emergency Grant Aid of 5 million US dollars in order to support refugees etc., arising from the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian and security situation in Syria, where a string of oppression and violence has been continuing for 14 months or more.
- Japan is scheduled to promptly implement, in particular, a distribution of food, sanitary items, and medical goods etc., while coordinating with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA).
- As a result of this decision, Japan's humanitarian assistance to Syria will total 8 million US dollars, including 3 million US dollars of emergency grant assistance Japan decided to extend in February.
