Statistics for the Number of Visas Issued in 2011

- 1,356,246 visas were issued at the diplomatic missions of Japan abroad for the year 2011, a decrease of 28.1% from 2010 (*1, *2).
- The number of visas issued by nationality and region is as follows (in descending order): China (742,982), Thailand (145,869), Malaysia (78,564), the Philippines (56,347), Indonesia (54,481), India (40,603), Russia (30,162), Vietnam (26,860), Brazil (21,677), ROK (21,370). The number of visas issued in these ten countries accounts for over 90% of the total number of visas issued.
- The number of visas issued by diplomatic missions of Japan abroad is as follows (in descending order of the number of visas issued): Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai (276,662), Embassy of Japan in China (205,646), Embassy of Japan in Thailand (141,310), Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou (104,766), Consulate-General of Japan in Shenyang (56,998), Embassy of Japan in the Philippines (50,199), Embassy of Japan in Malaysia (49,147), Embassy of Japan in Indonesia (41,443), Consular Office of Japan in Dalian (36,273), Consulate General of Japan at Qingdao (29,384). The number of visas issued in these ten diplomatic missions of Japan accounts for over 70% of the total number of visas issued. Among the ten missions, six were in China.
- The number of Temporary Visitor’s Visas issued for Chinese nationals was 634,525, which includes 297,140 Group Sightseeing Visas issued (a decrease of 54.5% from 2010) and 76,107 Individual Sightseeing Visas issued (an increase of 47.1 % from 2010). Furthermore, 8,964 Okinawa Multiple-Entry Visas (for individual Chinese tourists), which was newly implemented in July 2011, was issued in 6 months until December 2011.
*1 61 countries and regions have Visa Exemption Arrangements with Japan as of April 1, 2012.
