Japanese

  1. On Sunday, April 15, 2012 (Saturday, April 14 EST), the Security Council Resolution 2042 was unanimously adopted at the United Nations' Security Council to express its intention to establish a United Nations supervision mission in Syria and to dispatch an advance team to Syria for the missions' deployment. The government of Japan welcomes the adoption of the Security Council Resolution as this is an important step of the concerted efforts by the international society toward improving the situation. We also strongly support the activities by Mr. Kofi Annan, Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States, which led to the adoption of the resolution.

  2. The government of Japan demands that all the violence be stopped completely, that peace and stability be realized, and that Syrian citizens' legitimate aspiration for reform be achieved as early as possible in Syria. The government of Japan will continue to make efforts for improvement of the Syrian situation in cooperation with the international society.
