- On Wednesday, March 21, a United Nations Security Council Presidential Statement was released regarding the Syria issue, detailing amongst other things, support for the Six-Point Proposal by Kofi Annan, the Joint Special Envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States for Syria.
- The international community agrees on the extreme necessity of efforts to improve the situation in Syria, in order to prevent any further bloodshed. Japan welcomes the release of this presidential statement as a unified message by the Security Council, and supports the actions of the Joint Special Envoy, Mr. Annan. On a related point, Japan pledged a financial contribution amounting to 1.6 million USD on Tuesday, March 20 for the activities of the UN Department of Political Affairs, including such efforts aimed in solving Syrian affairs.
- Japan renew its calls upon the Syrian Government to put an immediate end to the violence and to swiftly and completely comply with the action plan and statement of the Arab League, and will continue to make every diplomatic effort possible, in coordination with the international community .
