Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the Ethiopia-Eritrea Situation

- On Thursday, March 15, military attacks by the Ethiopian Forces on the Eritrean territory occurred near the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea. While the Forces retreated after the attacks, there have been reports that another attack was made later. Japan is paying close attention to the situation.
- Concerned about increasing tension in this region, Japan calls for restraint to all the parties concerned and also strongly urges all the parties concerned to make efforts to ease the tension.
- Moreover, Japan is concerned about the border issue that lies behind the tension between the two countries and strongly expects efforts to be made for an early and peaceful solution of the issue by the two countries.
