Emergency Assistance to the Republic of Congo in Response to the Explosions at a Munitions Depot in Brazzaville

  1. On Friday, March 9, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth 10 million yen (tents and blankets) to the Republic of Congo, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request following serious damage caused by explosions at an ammunitions depot.

  2. On Sunday March 4, there were explosions at an ammunition depot, in Brazzaville, capital city of the Republic of Congo. The Government of the Republic of Congo reported, as of March 6, that 200 persons were dead, approximately 1,340 persons were wounded, and some 5,000 persons lost their houses because of the explosions.

  3. In response to the request from the Government of the Republic of Congo, the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency assistance from a humanitarian point of view for the victims as well as in light of friendly relations between Japan and the Republic of Congo.
