- On Tuesday, March 6 (Monday, March 5, local time), at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris, France, H.E. Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of the UNESCO, named Dr. Sen Genshitsu, the former 15th Grand Master of the Urasenke Tradition of Tea, who was visiting France, to the post of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
- It is expected that the naming of Dr. Sen to the post will serve to further introduce the aims and activities of UNESCO and strengthen Japan's relationship with the organization.

UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors are sourced from prominent figures across the world who support UNESCO activities. They are named with the aim of making a contribution to increasing the awareness of UNESCO. Including Dr. Sen Genshitsu of Urasenke, there are at present 50 Goodwill Ambassadors, including royal family members from around the world, artists, academics, and more.
