  1. On Thursday, March 1, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan held "FY2011 International Workshop on Acceptance of Foreign Nationals and Their Integration into Japan: Great East Japan Earthquake and the Policy on Foreign Nationals" in collaboration with Meiji University and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

This International Workshop was attended by Mr. Ryuji Yamane, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs and Etsuko Katsu, Vice President, Meiji University as well as Mr. William Lacy Swing, Director-General of the International Organization for Migration, who gave opening remarks and a keynote speech. This Workshop gave foreign nationals who actually experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake an opportunity to make presentations and offered lively discussions on what assistance should be provided to foreign nationals in the case of disasters and what challenges are in place to accept foreign nationals in Japan in the future, with the attendance of Japanese and foreign experts.
    The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced its plan to utilize its Facebook account to share information in several languages in the case of large-scale disasters. This Workshop marked a great opportunity to look back upon the Great East Japan Earthquake and share experiences and lessons on how to assist foreign nationals living in Japan.

  3. The content of this Workshop is scheduled to be posted on the YouTube video site by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
