Dispatch of Instructor to CIMIC Operator Course Organized by Canadian Government in Tanzania

- The Government of Japan decided to dispatch a Programme Advisor from the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters of the Cabinet Office, Ms. Mio Sato, as an instructor for a CIMIC (Civil-Military Cooperation) operator course organized by the Canadian government from Monday, February 13 to Friday, February 24, 2012 in Tanzania.
- Enhancement of peacekeeping capabilities in Africa is an issue to which the international community, including Japan and Canada, attaches a high value. Japan has been actively contributing in this area through such ways as supporting 10 peacekeeping centres in Africa. This dispatch has been materialized as a contribution to peace building efforts in Africa as a part of cooperation between Japan and Canada following the first Japan-Canada "2+2" dialogue held last year.
- The Government of Japan will continue to provide effective assistance through the deployment of qualified Japanese human resources as well as by funding training programs in order to enhance global peacekeeping capability.

Since 2008, Japan has supported 10 peacekeeping training centres in Africa (Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Rwanda, Benin, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon and Ethiopia), providing a total amount of 23.7 million US dollars. In addition, 19 Japanese instructors in total have been dispatched to some of these centres.
