On November 27, Mr. Kazuya Shimba, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call from H.E. Jalil Abbas Jilani, Foreign Secretary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The outline of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister Shimba stated that Japan would like to further deepen the Japan-Pakistan relationship as the two countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations this year. He expressed his intention to exert his efforts to strengthen the economic relations between the two countries as Japan took notice of Pakistan’s economic potential. He also stated that Japan would support Pakistan’s efforts for the improvement of its infrastructure.
- In response, Foreign Secretary Jilani expressed his deep appreciation for a variety of Japan’s social development assistance and support for damage caused by natural disasters, and stated that he highly valued Japan’s efforts to promote investment and trade to Pakistan. Foreign Secretary Jilani also stated that he had meaningful exchange of view on various bilateral issues as well as regional affairs at the Japan-Pakistan Foreign Secretary Level Political Consultations on November 26.
- Furthermore, both sides discussed regional issues such as Afghanistan, India-Pakistan relationship, and Japan-China relationship.
