Emergency Assistance to the Hurricane “Sandy” disaster in the Republic of Cuba

- On November 7, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods (sleeping pads and blankets) worth up to 31 million JPY to the Republic of Cuba through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) following the Hurricane “Sandy” disaster in the country.
- Hurricane “Sandy” has left 11 people dead in Cuba and 1.2 million people were forced to evacuate. In addition, bridges, roads, houses and other infrastructures were damaged, causing blackouts in various places.
- The Government of Japan decided to provide the emergency assistance to the Republic of Cuba to respond to the humanitarian needs to the people affected by the disaster as well as in light of the friendly relations between the two nations.
