Since October 29 (EST), Hurricane Sandy has caused damage mainly in the eastern United States (including the States of New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Virginia), and the damage continues to spread on October 30.

Inresponse, on October 31 (JST), Prime Minister Noda sent a message of sympathy to The Honorable Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, and expressed his sincere hope for the earliest recovery of the affected areas.
