Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Parliamentary Elections of Ukraine
October 31, 2012
Japanese
- On Monday, October 29, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe / the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR) released its preliminary findings and conclusions on the parliamentary elections that took place in Ukraine on Sunday, October 28.
- While these findings and conclusions offer affirmative praise for the fact that voters had a choice between distinct parties and that election day was calm and peaceful, they also point out the lack of equality within pre-election activities and lack of transparency regarding tabulation. The election observers dispatched by Japan provided a similar report. Japan generally shares the opinions of the OSCE.
- Japan hopes that the government administration and parliament of Ukraine will uphold the principles of democracy.
