Since October 29 (EST), Hurricane Sandy has caused damage mainly in the eastern United States (including the States of New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, and Virginia).

In response, on the night of October 30 (JST), Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent a message of sympathy to The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton, Secretary of State of the United States.

In the message, Foreign Minister Gemba expressed his deepest sympathies and reminded that the hearts of the people of Japan are with the people of the United States.
