On October 15, on receiving the news of the passing of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, King Father of Cambodia, Mr. Koichiro Gemba, Minister for Foreign Affairs, sent the following message of condolence to H.E. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia.

  1. On receiving the news of the passing of His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, King Father of Cambodia, I express my sincere condolences to the royal family, the Government and the people of Cambodia.


  2. The passing of His Majesty, who was an unparalleled leader who devoted his life to the independence, peace and stability of Cambodia, is a tremendous loss and a source of deep sorrow not only for Cambodia but for the wider international community, especially for Japan which has supported the peace and reconciliation in Cambodia.


  3. In respect for His Majesty’s achievement, I would like to offer my prayer that his soul rest in peace, and my heartfelt wish that the royal family, the Government and the people of Cambodia overcome their grief and succeed at the further development of the country.
