- The First Round of Negotiations for the agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of Ukraine concerning cooperation to advance aftermath response activities for accidents at nuclear power stations was held in Kiev, Ukraine on Thursday, January 26.
- The Participants in the meeting were: on the Japanese side, Mr. Kunihiko KAWAZU, Director for Central and South Eastern Europe Division, European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other officials from the ministry; and on the Ukraine side, Mr. Dmytro BOBRO, First Deputy Head, State Agency on Exclusion Zone Management of Ukraine, and other officials from relevant ministries.
- In the meeting, the countries, which have both experienced accidents at nuclear power stations, exchanged views, aiming at concluding the agreement for the purpose of strengthening cooperation to advance aftermath response activities for accidents at nuclear power stations, and agreed to continue further negotiations.
