On Tuesday, January 10, Mr. Kazuyuki Hamada, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting the Kyrgyz Republic, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Almazbek Atambaev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hamada thanked President Atambaev for the messages of condolences and assistance provided by the Kyrgyz Republic at the time of the Great East Japan Earthquake, and congratulated the president on the inauguration of the new administration. In response, President Atambaev extended again his heartfelt sympathy.

  2. President Atambaev expressed his gratitude for Japan's continued support toward democratization and the transition to a market economy since the independence of the Kyrgyz Republic which continues even after the Great East Japan Earthquake. He conveyed his appreciation that Japan-Kyrgyz relations are developing in multiple aspects. In response, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hamada indicated that Japan will continue to support the Kyrgyz Republic's efforts on democratization following the above-mentioned presidential election.

  3. Both sides confirmed that the relationship between both countries and people would be further strengthened and developed, taking advantage of this year's 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. They also agreed that the two countries will cooperate closely for a successful 4th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the "Central Asia Plus Japan" Dialogue scheduled to be held this autumn.

In the Kyrgyz Republic, a presidential election was held in October 2011, which was the first presidential election conducted through democratic process in Central Asia. Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hamada is the first dignitary to visit after the advent of the new administration.
