The Third Meeting of the Joint Committee of the Agreement between Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand for an Economic Partnership

  1. The Third Meeting of the Joint Committee established under the Agreement between Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand for an Economic Partnership (JTEPA) was held in Tokyo today, the 14th of September, 2011.

  2. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Shinichi Nishimiya, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs from the Japanese side, and Mr. Yanyong Phuangrach, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce from the Thai side. Officials from the relevant ministries and agencies of both Governments also participated in the meeting.

  3. In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the operation and implementation of the JTEPA since its entry into force on 1 November 2007, expressing general satisfaction for the overall achievements under the JTEPA. They reviewed the key aspects of the JTEPA, including reports from the Co-Chairpersons of the sub-committees convened after the 2nd Joint Committee, namely, the sub-committee on Tourism, the sub-committee on Agriculture, Forest and Fisheries, the sub-committee on Trade in Services, the sub-committee on Movement of Natural Persons, the sub-committee on Enhancement of Business Environment and the Sub-Committee on Trade in Goods.

  4. Both sides stressed that the JTEPA constitutes a solid basis for the furtherance of the bilateral relation between Japan and the Kingdom of Thailand.

  5. The next meeting of the Joint Committee will be hosted by Thailand in 2012. The specific timing and the agenda will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
