Today (on Monday, August 1), Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeaki Matsumoto, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Omurbek Toktogulovich Babanov, First Vice Prime-Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The outline of the meeting is as follows.
- At the start of the meeting, Foreign Minister Matsumoto expressed his sincere gratitude to the Kyrgyz Republic for its prompt support for Japan in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake. In reply, First Vice Prime-Minister Babanov once again offered his condolences, and also conveyed his deep gratitude to Japan for its consistent support for the nation-building efforts of the Kyrgyz Republic toward democratization and a market economy over the 20 years since the country gained its independence.
- Both sides agreed that it is important to further strengthen the bilateral relationship between Japan and the Kyrgyz Republic in both the political and economic spheres. In particular, First Vice Prime-Minister Babanov expressed his strong eagerness to expand Japan's investment in the Kyrgyz Republic. In response to this, Foreign Minister Matsumoto once again emphasized Japan's basic stance that it will continuously support democratization efforts by the Kyrgyz Republic, and then he pointed out how important it is to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the presidential election scheduled to be held in October of this year from various standpoints including the expansion of Japan's investment in the Kyrgyz Republic.
