Entry into force of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the Republic of India and holding of the first meeting of the Joint Committee

- The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the Republic of India (hereinafter referred to as "the Agreement"), which was signed on February 16, 2011 in Tokyo, entered into force on August 1, 2011, after the completion of the respective necessary legal procedures in both countries.
- The first meeting of the Joint Committee established under the Agreement was held on August 1, 2011 in New Delhi, co-chaired by Ambassador Akitaka SAIKI (Japanese side) and Dr. Rahul KHULLAR, Secretary of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Indian side). The Joint Committee made decisions necessary for the implementation of the Agreement, including the Implementing Procedures referred to in Annex 3 (Operational Certification Procedures).
- It is expected that the entry into force of the Agreement will strengthen Japan-India bilateral economic partnership and further vitalize the economies of the two countries.
