Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the transfer of Goran Hadzic to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague

- Japan welcomes the arrest on July 20 and subsequent transfer on July 22 by the Government of the Republic of Serbia of the former political leader of the Croatian Serbs Goran Hadzic, indicted for crimes against humanity and war crimes allegedly committed in Croatia, to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. Japan commends the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the expression of cooperation with the ICTY, which the international community including Japan has been calling for.
- Japan hopes that this will contribute to the facilitation of reconciliation in the Western Balkans and the stability in the region.
