- From June 20 to 22, Mr. Takeaki Matsumoto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, will visit Washington, D.C., United States of America, to attend the Japan-U.S. Security Consultative Committee (SCC), etc.
- The four Ministers of Japan and the U.S. are to come together and hold the SCC meeting, which will be the first meeting in the last four years since May 2007. Taking account for the current security environment in the area surrounding Japan, which is becoming increasingly uncertain, and the response to the Great East Japan Earthquake as well as the nuclear power plant incident, the members of the SCC will conduct further consultations on Japan-U.S. security and defense cooperation, the realignment of the U.S. forces in Japan and the Common Strategic Objectives.
- During his visit, Foreign Minister Matsumoto plans to hold meetings with U.S. officials in order to exchange views on bilateral issues.
