On Wednesday, June 8, for about 20 minutes from 5:30 p.m., Mr. Takeaki Matsumoto, Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with Dip. Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín, President of the Chamber of Deputies of the United Mexican States. The outline of their discussion is as follows:
- Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for the assistances extended by Mexico following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and requested the President that Mexico not take any measures to hinder economic activities between the two countries.
- President Ramírez expressed his gratitude for the various Japanese assistances to Mexico and stated that the unanimous resolution of the Chamber to show solidarity toward Japan is based on the special amicable relationship between the two countries. He also stated that the Chamber is opposed to any measures to restrict bilateral economic activities and that Mexico trusts Japan's response following the earthquake.
- Minister Matsumoto also requested the Chamber to assist in solving the double payment issue of social security expenses with a view to facilitating bilateral investments.
- President Ramírez requested Japan's support regarding the candidacy of Dr. Augustín Carstens, Governor of the Bank of Mexico, for the next Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
