Japan-Mexico Foreign Ministerial Telephone Conference

On Wednesday, June 1, for about 20 minutes from 8:20AM, Mr. Takeaki Matsumoto, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conference with Amb. Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States. The outline of their discussion is as follows:

  1. Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude once again for the sympathy and assistance received from Mexico following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and stated his intention to continue efforts toward developing favorable relations with Mexico. In response, Secretary Espinosa stated the importance of exchanging opinions with Japan, a particularly close friend of Mexico, and expressed her gratitude for the holding of the telephone conference.
     
  2. Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by Mexico thus far regarding the relaxation of restrictive measures on goods imported from Japan to Mexico and requested further relaxation of restrictions.

  3. Secretary Espinosa reported that Dr. Augustín Carstens, Governor of the Bank of Mexico, had become a candidate for the next Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and requested Japan’s suppport regarding this matter.
