Dispatch of Instructors to the Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Centre

- The Government of Japan will dispatch Ms. Ryoko Yonamine and Ms. Mio Sato, Programme Advisors of the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters of the Cabinet Office, as instructors for a civil-military coordination course to be conducted by the Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Centre from May 30 to June 10, 2011. Ms. Yonamine will cover a gender-related session and Ms. Sato will cover humanitarian principles and other sessions.
- Attaching importance to peacebuilding, the Government of Japan provided assistance of 1 million US dollars for the Malaysian Peacekeeping Training Centre through UNDP-Japan Partnership Fund (the first assistance by the Government of Japan to be provided for a peacekeeping training centre in Asia). This civil-military coordination course will be conducted by this funding by Japan, and the Government of Japan decided to dispatch the above two instructors, following the dispatch of Mr. Yutaka Tatewaki, Programme Advisor of the Secretariat of the International Peace Cooperation Headquarters of the Cabinet Office, to a civil-military coordination course conducted from April 25 to 29, in order to contribute in personnel, in addition to funding.
- The Government of Japan will continue to provide effective assistance by drawing on qualified human resources of Japan as well as by funding training programs in order to enhance the international capability for peacekeeping.

The Government of Japan provided assistance of 1 million US dollars to help capacity building and actual training courses of the centre. The project document was signed in 2010 and the actual training courses start this year, the second year of this project.
