Japanese

  1. Japan is deeply concerned by armed clashes involving the use of heavy artillery and aerial bombing taking place between the Sudan Armed Forces and the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in Abyei, a border district between Northern and Southern Sudan.

  2. As the independence day for Southern Sudan draws near, Japan requests that both parties to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) cease hostilities in Abyei and adhere to the agreement as well as withdraw all unauthorized armed forces from Abyei and proceed with peaceful negotiations on all outstanding issues including implementation of pending issues of the CPA.
