State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yutaka Banno to Attend OECD Ministerial Council Meeting and WTO Informal Ministerial Meeting

  1. On Wednesday, May 25, and Thursday, May 26, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Yutaka Banno will attend the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting to be held in Paris, France, and the WTO Informal Ministerial Meeting to be hosted by Australia.

  2. The OECD Ministerial Council Meeting will discuss issues of green growth, development, trade and jobs under the theme of "Better Policies for Better Lives". In terms of future world economic growth, attendees will discuss reaching out to non-OECD member economies for cooperation. With 2011 marking the 50th anniversary of the OECD, there are plans for commemorative events featuring the participation of various heads of state.

  3. The WTO Informal Ministerial Meeting to be held by Australia will gather representatives from each major economy, including developing ones, to discuss how to proceed forward with Doha Round negotiations.
