- The Government of Myanmar announced on Monday, May 16 and started the release of prisoners including about fifty political prisoners on May 17. The Government of Japan evaluates it as a positive step toward national reconciliation by the Government of Myanmar.
- The Government of Japan expects that the Government of Myanmar will further promote its movement of releasing political prisoners in the future and promote the democratization process.
