Accepting an Expert on Atomic Energy from the Republic of Korea on a Long-Term Basis

  1. As part of Japan-ROK collaboration to work on the accidents at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which is managed by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), the Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization (JNES) has decided to accept one expert on atomic energy (Senior Researcher, Nuclear Reactor System Assessment) from the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety on a long-term basis. The dispatched personnel will work with JNES in Japan for three months starting on Monday, May 23 and share information with Japanese experts. The expert has been in Japan since Wednesday, May 18.

  2. The Republic of Korea (ROK) also dispatched seven experts on atomic energy to Japan on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13, to exchange views with Japanese experts. Furthermore, Japan has received 20 radiation survey meters from the ROK in the context of their assistance to us.

  3. Japan highly appreciates the support offered by the Government of the ROK. As we continue to commit to resolving the accidents at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, which is managed by TEPCO, we will closely work with these experts.
