- The Third Meeting of the High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP) will be held over two days from Monday, May 16 to Tuesday, May 17 in Helsinki, Finland. From Japan, Dr. Yukio Hatoyama, Former Prime Minister, will attend the Meeting.
- The GSP is a panel established in August 2010 based on the initiative of Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations, with the objective of formulating a new vision for the realization of sustainable growth and prosperity, along with mechanisms for achieving it. Her Excellency Ms. Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, and His Excellency Mr. Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa, will act as Co-Chairs of the Panel.
- At the present Meeting, in the same way as the previous meetings (the First Meeting of the GSP was held in September 2010 in New York, USA, and the Second Meeting was held in February of this year in Cape Town, South Africa), the participants will exchange views on policies aimed at the realization of sustainable development that can achieve economic growth and also to address ways of dealing effectively with a range of global issues including the issue of climate change.
