Statement by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the election of Myanmar's new President

1. Today, Mr. Thein Sein was elected as the new President as a result of the election in Myanmar's National Assembly.
   
   
2. We expect Myanmar's new government, under the leadership of President Thein Sein, to take positive measures to ensure more inclusive and democratic Myanmar as well as hope that Myanmar would further strengthen its relationship with international community, including Japan.
