ODA Policy Consultation Meeting with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (Outcomes)

  1. The Japan-Myanmar ODA Policy Consultation Meeting was held on Monday, November 28 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.

  2. The Japanese delegation was represented by Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, Deputy Director-General, Southeast & Southwest Asian Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, accompanied by Deputy Director level officials from relevant ministries. The Myanmar side was represented by Daw Myat Myat so, Director-General, Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of National Planning & Economic Development of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, with Directors General and Deputy Directors-General from relevant ministries.

  3. At this ODA Policy Consultation Meeting, discussions were held on development policies of the new administration of the Myanmar Government, as well as on Japan's assistance policies on ODA for sustainable economic development of Myanmar, including the formulation of projects that can be implemented under the current Japan's economic cooperation policy towards Myanmar.

  4. Both countries agreed to build upon this Consultation Meeting to further enhance coordination in the future.

  5. Japan believes that it is important for Myanmar, having just recently shifted to civilian rule, to become a democratic nation based on a market economy and social stability. Therefore, Japan intends to implement economic cooperation while watching for improvements in democratization and human rights situations.
