Dispatch of Government Delegation to discuss the Issue of Trafficking in Persons

- Japan will dispatch a Government Delegation to the Republic of the Philippines from November 22 to 25 (from Tuesday to Friday) in order to discuss the issue of Trafficking in Persons (TIP). The Delegation will be headed by Mr. Yoshiya Muto, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Policy Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and comprise representatives of the authorities concerned (National Police Agency, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
- The Delegation will have consultations with the Government of the Philippines, including the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking, Philippines National Police and others, as well as the office of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in the Philippines, on measures to combat TIP in Japan, the Philippines and international cooperation in this field. The Delegation will also visit related facilities for victims.
- Based on the understanding that close international cooperation is crucial to efficiently combat TIP, which often tends to be a transnational organized crime, Japan will build up closer ties and cooperation with the Philippines through the visit of the delegation.
