Statement by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the Decision Made by the Arab League Emergency Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the Situation in Syria

- The League of Arab States during its emergency foreign ministers’ meeting on the situation in Syria, which took place in Cairo, Egypt on November 12, decided on provisions to be taken to stop acts of violence and murder in Syria. Japan welcomes the efforts of the League of Arab States toward the resolution of the situation.
- Japan urges the Syrian Government to accept this decision with sincerity and swiftly implement all items of the action plan of the League of Arab States to prevent further increases in victims.
- Also, Japan regards the intrusion of protestors into several diplomatic missions in Syria, accompanied by acts of violence, as being deplorable, and strongly urges the Syrian Government to observe the duty stipulated in the international law to protect the diplomatic missions.
