November 2, 2011
Japanese
- Japan welcomes that the presidential election in the Kyrgyz Republic was conducted peacefully on Sunday, October 30. This election is the first presidential election since the political upheaval in April 2010 and it has a great significance from the perspective of promoting the democratic process in the country.
- The election occurred under the supervision of election monitoring missions dispatched from Japan and other nations as well as international organizations, who monitored the process around the country. International election observation missions including the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE)/Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) released a positive evaluation that election was conducted in a peaceful manner, but shortcomings underscored that the integrity of the electoral process should be improved to consolidate democratic practice. The Japanese parliamentarian election observation mission including Mr. Nobuhiko Suto, Member of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Naoto Sakaguchi, Member of the House of Representatives, have reported that although there were certain shortcomings this presidential election was conducted neutrally and fairly. They also reported that they found the advancement of democratization of the Kyrgyz Republic through the election observation activity and have a high degree of expectation for the democratic consolidation hereafter.
- Japan expects that under the president who will be elected in this election for all political forces to join hands with a view to promoting the stability and development of the Kyrgyz Republic based on the principles of democracy and constitutional order and will continue to support the Kyrgyz Republic’s democratization.
