Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the Lower House Election in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan

The Lower House Election was held in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on September 18th Saturday, with support of the international community, through the efforts of the Government of Afghanistan and with participation of the people of Afghanistan. The Government of Japan expresses its appreciation that the polling process was generally carried out as planned so far, although some polling stations were inaccessible because of the security situation.
Japan expresses its regret that some people became the victims of violent activities by anti-governmental forces, and strongly condemns such violent activities.
Japan expects appropriate counting and tallying of votes so that the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan will be promoted under the democratically elected parliament.
