On May 14 (Fri) for approximately twenty minutes from 6:05 p.m., Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, had a telephone conversation with Mr. Marty Natalegawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. During the conversation, the two Ministers discussed the situation in Myanmar and the Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). An overview of the telephone conversation is as follows.
- The situation in Myanmar
Both Ministers shared the view that it is essential that the general elections in Myanmar this year be carried out in a free and fair way, including all the relevant parties, and that both sides will continue to cooperate for this purpose in the future. - The 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the NPT
Minister Okada welcomed Minister Natalegawa’s statement at the General Debate on May 3 that Indonesia initiated the process of the ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Both Ministers agreed to cooperate together so that a forward-looking agreement can be achieved at the NPT Review Conference.
