May 6, 2010
Japanese
- At 6 p.m. on May 6 (Thu), Mr. Katsuya Okada, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, called Mr. Cheng Yonghua, Chinese Ambassador to Japan, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the purpose of lodging a protest to the People’s Republic of China regarding the issue of a Chinese ship approaching a Japanese survey ship.
- Minister Okada stated that China’s obstructive actions are a violation of Japan’s sovereign rights, and that he has no choice but to strongly protest them. He also said that it is extremely regrettable that Chinese military helicopters recently made two extremely dangerous proximate flights to Japanese escort ships, and that he would like China to take practical actions to make the East China Sea a “Sea of Peace, Cooperation and Friendship”.
- In response, Ambassador Cheng shared the Chinese standpoint regarding this issue, and stated that he would accurately report Minister Okada’s proposal to China.
