Statement by Press Secretary/Director-General for Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the recent situation in Israel and the Palestinian Territories

- Japan welcomes the decision of the Arab Peace Initiative Follow-up Committee in the League of Arab States that it gives a chance to proximity talks between Israel and the Palestinians meditated by the United States for the period of 4 months at the maximum.
- Japan sincerely hopes that the proximity talks will swiftly develop into the resumption of direct talks between the two parties with its commitment to support two-state solution. Japan will keep making efforts to contribute to promoting Middle East peace together with the international community.
