Dispatch of Election Observers to the Presidential Election of the Republic of Belarus

  1. The Government of Japan has decided to dispatch two election observers to the international election observation mission organized by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe / the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), in order to support fair conduct of the presidential election of the Republic of Belarus, which is scheduled for December 19 (Sun). The observers are dispatched from the Embassies of Japan in Russian Federation and Republic of Poland.

  2. The upcoming presidential election will be held upon the expiration of the term of Mr. Aleksandr Lukashenko, President of the Republic of Belarus. Free and fair conduct of the upcoming election is of crucial importance to promote democratization of the country as well as to ensure stability of Europe as a whole. Around 200 observers are to be dispatched from major countries to the International Election Observation Mission of OSCE/ODIHR.
