Messages of Condolence by Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Minister for Foreign Affairs Seiji Maehara for the Disastrous Accident during the Water Festival in Cambodia

  1. On the night of November 22 (Mon), a stampede incident that occurred in Phnom Penh during the Water Festival in Cambodia which resulted in a large number of deaths and injuries among the spectators.

In response to this incident, on November 24 (Wed), Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, and Mr. Seiji Maehara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, sent messages to Mr. Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Mr. Hor Namhong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, respectively, expressing their profound condolences for the loss of many lives and heartfelt wishes to those injured for prompt recovery, hoping that the Cambodian people and the Royal Government of Cambodia would cooperate with each other to overcome this difficult time.
