- On November 9 (Tue.) for about 15 minutes from 6:20 p.m., Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone conversation with Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
- During the conversation, Prime Minister Kan reiterated his message of sympathy for the flood disaster last summer. Concerning the Pakistan Development Forum (PDF) to be held from November 14 to 15 in Islamabad, Prime Minister Kan informed President Zardari that Ms. Makiko Kikuta, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, would attend the Forum on behalf of the Government of Japan, upon approval of the Diet. He explained Japan’s assistance policy to Pakistan towards the PDF, and expressed his expectation that Pakistan would continue its efforts for anti-terrorist operations and economic reform.
- President Zardari expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance, as well as his intention to continue working on flood recovery, anti-terrorist operations, and economic reform.
