Japan-Gabon Summit Meeting

On October 27 (Wed), for about 20 minutes from 12:00 PM, Mr. Naoto Kan, Prime Minister of Japan held a bilateral meeting in Nagoya with H.E. Mr. Ali Bongo Ondimba, President of the Gabonese Republic, who is on his working visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Prime Minister Kan welcomed President Bongo’s attendance at the High Level Segment of the 10th Conference of Parties to the Convention of Biological Diversity (CBD-COP10), and requested his cooperation toward its success. Prime Minister Kan also expressed his expectation that this visit to Japan by President Bongo will serve as an opportunity to further develop bilateral relations, noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Gabon.
- In response, President Bongo said that the Government of Gabon also intends to further develop the cooperative relationship it has had with Japan, and to continue cooperating with Japan in various areas. The President also noted that Gabon expects to further strengthen its ties with Japan in the area of trade and investment.
- Furthermore, the two leaders shared the view that they will continue cooperating in addressing various international issues, including the issue of climate change and the reform of the United Nations Security Council.
