Appointment of Ambassador accredited to the League of Arab Sates

- The Government of Japan appointed Mr. Kaoru Ishikawa, Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Arab Republic of Egypt to concurrently
hold the post of Ambassador accredited to the League of Arab Sates. On September
9, 2009, his appointment was received at the Foreign Ministers Meeting of
the League of Arab Sates.
- The League of Arab Sates, which consists of 21 Arab States and the Palestinian
Authority and was established in Cairo, Egypt, in March 1945 for the purpose
of strengthening relations among Arab States, settling conflicts among them
in peace and defending members jointly, continues its effort to maintain
regional stability such as reconciliation among Palestinian factions, mediation
in the situation of Lebanon and Sudan. In addition to that, the League activates
exchanges with other regions including EU, USA and China. These activities
have been increasing the presence of the League of Arab States recently.
- Taking into account the increasing importance of the League of Arab Sates, the relations between Japan and the League of Arab Sates is developing in various fields such as politics, economy and culture, for instance a Japan-Arab Economic Forum is scheduled on December, 2009. The appointment of Ambassador accredited to the League of Arab Sates is of great importance for practical aspects such as further development and facilitation of the relations with the League of Arab Sates as well as Arab States.
